New Wine Vino nuevo

Mark 2:21-22:

No man also seweth a piece of new cloth on an old garment: else the new piece that filled it up taketh away from the old, and the rent is made worse.

And no man putteth new wine into old bottles: else the new wine doth burst the bottles, and the wine is spilled, and the bottles will be marred: but new wine must be put into new bottles.

Back in Jesus' time, new cloth was sold without being washed. Makes sense, since nobody had washing machines. So when it got washed, it shrank. If sewn onto an old garment, it would shrink later and pull against the older, weaker fabric, making the hole even larger.

You can't use Jesus to merely repair the old. He did not come to make the old religious life slightly better. He came to give new life.

In biblical times, "bottles" were animal-skin containers. New wine was still fermenting, meaning expanding and producing gas. The new wineskin was more flexible and could stretch. An old wineskin had become dry and rigid, so the new pressure could split it.

In both cases the patch damages both things. The old garment rips, and the new wine gets spilled.

New wine needs a vessel capable of expanding with it. Perhaps this is why attaching Jesus to an unchanged life doesn't work.

It reminds me of Matthew 27:51.

Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom…

It is so interesting that when Jesus died, the veil that separated us from the presence of God was torn.

It is as if God was saying, "There is no more barrier. Jesus' sacrifice is enough."

We have direct access to Him. Then why does it seem like He is not there? Could it be, perhaps, that we have too much noise inside to hear Him?

Perhaps we are the old garments, the old wineskins, and He is a good Father. He doesn't want us to burst or rip apart.

Maybe what we need is to "Be still, and know that I am God." Psalm 46:10.

Therefore,

"I sought the Lord, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears." Psalm 34:4.

for "But new wine must be put into new bottles; and both are preserved." Luke 5:38.

Marcos 2:21-22:

Nadie pone remiendo de paño nuevo en vestido viejo; de otra manera el mismo remiendo nuevo tira de lo viejo, y la rotura se hace peor.

Y nadie echa vino nuevo en odres viejos; de otra manera, el vino nuevo rompe los odres, y el vino se derrama, y los odres se pierden; pero el vino nuevo en odres nuevos se ha de echar.

En tiempos de Jesús, la tela nueva se vendía sin lavar. Tiene sentido, ya que nadie tenía lavadoras. Así que, cuando se lavaba, encogía. Si estaba cosida a una prenda vieja, encogía después y tiraba contra la tela más vieja y débil, haciendo el agujero aún más grande.

No puedes usar a Jesús solo para remendar lo viejo. Él no vino a mejorar un poco la vieja vida religiosa. Vino a dar vida nueva.

En tiempos bíblicos, los "odres" eran recipientes de piel de animal. El vino nuevo todavía estaba fermentando, es decir, expandiéndose y produciendo gas. El odre nuevo era más flexible y podía estirarse. Un odre viejo se había secado y endurecido, así que la nueva presión podía reventarlo.

En ambos casos el remiendo daña las dos cosas. La prenda vieja se rasga, y el vino nuevo se derrama.

El vino nuevo necesita un recipiente capaz de expandirse con él. Quizás por eso no funciona unir a Jesús con una vida que no ha cambiado.

Me recuerda a Mateo 27:51.

Y he aquí, el velo del templo se rasgó en dos, de arriba abajo…

Es muy interesante que cuando Jesús murió, el velo que nos separaba de la presencia de Dios se rasgó.

Es como si Dios dijera: "Ya no hay barrera. El sacrificio de Jesús es suficiente."

Tenemos acceso directo a Él. Entonces, ¿por qué parece que no está ahí? ¿Será, quizás, que tenemos demasiado ruido por dentro para oírle?

Quizás nosotros somos los vestidos viejos, los odres viejos, y Él es un buen Padre. No quiere que reventemos ni nos rasguemos.

Quizás lo que necesitamos es "Estad quietos, y conoced que yo soy Dios." Salmo 46:10.

Por lo tanto,

"Busqué a Jehová, y él me oyó, y me libró de todos mis temores." Salmo 34:4.

pues "Mas el vino nuevo en odres nuevos se ha de echar; y lo uno y lo otro se conserva." Lucas 5:38.
